PurposeLighthouse Quilters Guild is a non-profit organization formed in 1981 by 18 women. The guild was incorporated on May 1986. The purposes of the Guild are: (1) to promote the art of quilt making and related textile areas; (2) to provide educational opportunities; (3) to encourage the sharing of members' talents and fellowship; (4) to share the quilting arts with the community; and (5) to preserve our quilting heritage. |
MeetingsThere are 10 meetings a year, held on the last Monday of each month, January through October (except May - which is held the week before Memorial Day). The meetings are held at 7:00 pm in the Fellowship Hall of the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection at 322 Ohio Street, Racine, Wisconsin. All meetings generally have a speaker or mini lessons, a short business meeting, and a Show and Tell of completed quilts or other projects.
The guild also has an extensive quilting library from which the members may borrow materials before each meeting. In November there is a member's only holiday party. |
MembershipMembership is open to anyone interested in the art of quilting.
The guild's year runs from March 1 to February 28. New members can join throughout the year. Memberships fees are due by February 28 of the new year. Yearly dues are $30.00. Each member makes a name tag to wear at meetings. If a member forgets their name tag, they are asked for a 50-cent donation that goes toward the monthly door prizes. |
Service Projects
We encourage members to participate in community projects. Members make and donate around 100 charity quilts each year for community organizations that range in size from baby to twin and are given out to comfort children, veterans, and our older residents. Current suggestions (and sizing) are listed in our newsletter for places to donate (see news page), but we encourage members to donate anywhere.
While we encourage members to help make a quilt each year to donate, we do not keep a checklist. If you are a new member and do not have time or skill to finish a whole quilt on your own, reach out to us so we can help. Education is one of our primary goals.
